- Self-medication should be reserved for healthy adults to treat minor health conditions.
- Self-medication is prohibited for infants and very young children, pregnant or breastfeeding women, and elderly individuals taking multiple medications.
- When self-medicating, only one symptom should be treated. For instance, if you experience a headache accompanied by vomiting or a stiff neck, or diarrhea with a fever, consult your physician.
- Practice simple self-medication by prioritizing a medication composed of a single substance, and for a short duration (maximum 5 days). If symptoms persist or worsen, consult your physician.
- Avoid unnecessary risks. ANY medication can cause adverse effects, ranging from minor to severe. A healthy lifestyle and physical activity are preferable to medications that are not always effective or harmless.
- Inform yourself about the medication before purchasing it, either from your pharmacist or on the Ministry of Health's website: http://base-donnees-publique.medicaments.gouv.fr/
- During a medical consultation, ALWAYS inform your physician about any other medications you are currently taking.
- Avoid alcohol, as it can alter the effectiveness or increase the adverse effects of medications.
- Do not play the amateur sorcerer! Medication is not a harmless product: what proved effective for your best friend may be ineffective or even dangerous for you.
- Store the medication in its original packaging with the leaflet, away from light and humidity, and out of the reach of children.
